Pattachitra is a general term for traditional, cloth-based scroll painting, based in the eastern Indian states of Odisha, West Bengal and parts of Bihar and Jharkhand . In the Sanskrit language "Patta" literally means "cloth" and "Chitra" means "picture". Most of these paintings depict stories of Hindu deities Each state has its own distinct form and they are now made on paper, cloth or even canvas. This art form has a long history of 1500 years. These were painted as scrolls in the early years and the travelling minstrels unfurled these scrolls and related the stories from Hindu Mythology.
